Making the Caravan of the Future
In 2005, The Caravan Club invited designers, engineers and enthusiasts to enter the Caravan of the Future – Design Concept Competition. The response was fantastic with over 300 entries submitted from people of all walks of life providing their interpretation of the Caravan of the Future. The designs took into consideration the changing ways in which we enjoy our leisure time and the new technologies and materials at our disposal.
The winners of the competition were Bristol-based design collaboration duo Paul Burchill – Stride Treglown Architects and Herve Delaby – a freelance industrial and interior designer. Their winning entry, named the Cargo S is a stylish and modern design that displays carefully though-out elements which enable users to make the most of their caravanning holidays.
Bailey of Bristol was selected by The Caravan Club to manufacture the prototype of Cargo S. As the UK’s best selling brand, Bailey has a well established pedigree in terms of new product development and also has previous experience of working with The Caravan Club on special design projects; having recently produced their Practical Caravanning Courses fleet units.
Seven and a half months later the finished proto type was unveiled at the National Boat Caravan & Outdoor Show on Saturday 17th February.
Cargo S will be on display at future events celebrating The Centenary of The Caravan Club. For more information on where to see The Caravan of the Future and the competition itself click onto www.tcc100.co.uk
